What The AOC is up to now...

New bodies chosen for the Administrative Office of the Courts. the AOC is the top of the Judicial pyramid in CA. They hold the purse strings. Twice in eight months, the AOC has tried to take money away from public law libraries. It's only a matter of time, IMHO. Recently in CT, they closed their public law libraries. Last year in CA, Plumas County Board of Supervisors closed the LL to the public, fired the librarian, and stopped paying the bills. Judges and attoneys had access. She was out of work for 9 months. Then she applied for unemployment. Guess what, they hired her back to run the LL.

In another county this year, a similar situation came up. They shifted the librarian to a p/t job in County Counsel for a few months. Then they put her back in the LL, but with a different job description. She has less control over decision making, but she is okay with that. She is just happy to be doing what she loves.

I wish I could afford to go to Philly for the AALL Mtg. At least I now have a mentor, courtesy of the AALL.
She lives in another state, so our contact is virtual. But I am very grateful to have her at all!
